Hulamin Supports School Entrepreneurship Programme

Hulamin Supports School Entrepreneurship Programme

During March, 50 educators from as far afield as Newcastle and Ixopo attended the Pietermaritzburg entrepreneurship workshop at Maritzburg College as part of the SAPREF/Mercury School Entrepreneurs Competition. The workshop, which has been sponsored by Hulamin for the past few years, aims to empower educators to teach practical business skills in schools and to give learners an incentive to start their own businesses. All educators who attended agreed that this year's workshop was useful and motivating. "It showed me that Economics and Management Science can be really fun-filled, yet empower learners with the vital skills they need to run a business" said Anusha Rajpaul from Athlone Primary.

At the workshop Hulamin's Corporate Communications Manager, Mpume Mthembu, thanked the educators for their commitment to developing young entrepreneurs. "An important reason why we continue to support this programme is because our country is in need of more young people who can think creatively and independently, who have the necessary skill, attitude and passion to form their own businesses thereby create employment opportunities that will grow the economy" she said. Since it was established, the annual SAPREF Mercury School Entrepreneurs Competition has succeeded in showcasing talent from learners in local primary and high schools and opening doors of opportunity for entrepreneurship.
